A SONG OF MOTHER

Mother 4 5 and 7even is a live performance of a one-act vignette, that images the life of a African American mother and her three children who live in the Ghetto of Chicago Illinois. Mother suffers with drug addiction, paranoia and schizophrenia. The show illustrates the problems of mental health from an ethnic perspective. It poetically voices the need for understanding of mental health issues in our society from a multicultural perspective. The show also depicts how a family dealing with a mentally ill mother affects the lives of everyone involved to the young children. The question is how you survive; where do you find help; how do you avoid the stigma of having a mental illness when the family hides its reality under traditional escapes of ignorance and denial.
